Background:

The program helps alleviate the ever increasing cost of heating and cooling homes of Nebraska's low income residents.  It is a long term solution to the high costs of heating consumption, both to individuals and the environment.  Eligible low income participants include renters as well as home owners.

Funding:

Funding is received form the Nebraska Energy Office and the U.S. Department of Energy.  All Weatherization work is performed by subcontractors located throughout the 14 - county service area.  Both renters and homeowners are eligible.  According to studies conducted by the Nebraska Energy Office, the average savings per home after Weatherization is 22%.

Eligibility Criteria:

In order to be eligible for the program:

  1. An applicant's income must fall at, or below, the income guidelines set by the Department of energy, and:
  2. The applicant's home must not have been previously weatherized under the Weatherization Program.  After completion of an application, the applicant's income for the preceding 12 months is verified and income eligibility determined. If the home is not weatherized within 12 months of the date of the application, a new application will be taken and the income re-verified.

If the eligible applicant is a tenant in a rented home, the Weatherization Program must have an agreement signed by the landlord giving Goldenrod Hills permission to work in this home.

Eligible clients will receive weatherization assistance under the program according to the following priorities:

  1. Handicapped 60 Years of age or older.
  2. Elderly, 60 years of age or older.
  3. Disabled
  4. Native American
  5. Persons with children less than six years of age
  6. Other eligible clients

Procedures:

  1. An application must be taken and income verified.
  2. An estimator will come to your home and evaluate the overall condition of the home he or she will ask you to sign the evaluation.
  3. The job will then be issued to a contractor who has bid to do the specified work on the home.
  4. After the completion, quality control personnel will visit the home and check the work done by the contractor.  If all work is satisfactory, they will ask you to sign a form stating this fact.

The Nebraska Energy office does a monthly evaluation on 10%-50% of the homes completed.  Your home may be selected for this evaluation, and, if so, an on-site check will be done by a state representative.
